Huuman activities may represent the greatest threat to coral reefs living in Earth's oceans and seas. Some big causes of pollution are:
1)Pollution- When people start to dump rubbish into the waters which will make the oceans and sea water become dirty which irritates the life of the coral reefs.
2)Land development- The soil coming from farming and consructing of roads, buildings, ports, channels and harbors causes pollution.
3)Dynamite fishing- When an explosive, such as grenades are lowered into the seaand activated, the explosive will explode causing the fishes and corals to die instantly due to the impact. A second blast is normally set of to destroy other larger predators around.
4)Bleaching-High sea temperature coupled with high heat intensity, triggers the loss of zooxanthellae, a symbiotic algea which will cause its dinoflagellate pigmentation in corals causing it to lose its clour and then it will eventually die out.
5)Ocean acidification-More carbon dioxide gas is dissolved into the water which reacts to form carbonic acid resulting in ocean acidification, causing the corals to die out.
6)African and Asian dust outbreaks-Dust from the Sahara desert moves towards the other cities through the sea. The dust can irritate the corals as the corals in an experiment has shown that dust has linked to the decline in the coral reefs. Coral reefs also can incoperate dust into their bodys which is bad to them.
7)Destruction worldwide- This is basically what was just explained(Pollution, Bleaching etc.) but it not only happens all around the world but also at the same time!
What do you notice about all the causes of the coral reefs dying out?
They are all linked, somehow, to human activities!
